Meet your dentists

Dr. Craig P. Vacek

Dr. Craig Vacek brings over two decades of experience to VFD Innovative Dental, blending personalized care with cutting-edge technology to deliver dentistry at its highest level. A graduate of the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Dentistry, Dr. Vacek also holds an MBA from the University of Nebraska. What began as a small practice has grown into one of Lincoln’s most advanced and trusted dental destinations—thanks to Dr. Vacek’s vision for comprehensive, patient-first care under one roof. He is known for treating complex, full-transformation cases with empathy, skill, and a commitment to doing what’s right for each patient—whether that involves restoring natural teeth or placing implants with guided precision.

Dr. Vacek is deeply involved in dental education, both as a faculty member at UNMC College of Dentistry and a mentor to dentists nationwide. He is a visiting faculty for CDOCS, holds fellowship status with the International Dental Implant Association (IDIA), and regularly provides in-office training on CEREC technology, cone beam imaging, and guided implant surgery. His goal is to help other dentists with their vision for an extraordinary practice AND extraordinary life.

Dr. Gregory W. Bennett

Dr. Gregory Bennett blends a global perspective, a deep love for teaching, and a passion for dental innovation — all of which make him an invaluable part of the VFD team. Originally from the West Coast, he earned his undergraduate degree from Oregon State University before completing his Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) at Oregon Health & Science University in 2010 through the U.S. Navy Health Professions Scholarship Program.

After dental school, Dr. Bennett completed a General Practice Residency at the Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton and served as a Dental Corps officer until 2015. His time in the Navy took him from California to Afghanistan — and everywhere in between — earning multiple honors including the Navy Marine Corps Commendation Medal and the NATO Medal.

Since leaving active duty, Dr. Bennett has focused on helping shape the future of dentistry. He began teaching part-time at the UNMC College of Dentistry, where his impact quickly expanded. Today, he serves as Assistant Professor of CAD/CAM and Digital Dentistry, helping students and professionals alike understand how emerging technology can elevate patient care. His research and leadership have earned him national recognition and numerous awards — including multiple UNeMed Innovation Awards, faculty honors from graduating classes, and election to Omicron Kappa Upsilon, the national dental honor society.

Dr. Bennett is also a published researcher, peer reviewer, and regular contributor to journals focused on restorative dentistry, digital workflows, and advanced materials. His work reflects a core belief shared by the entire VFD team: when technology is used with intention, it leads to smarter, more comfortable care.

Dr. Nicholas J. Murray

Dr. Nicholas Murray brings a unique mix of clinical precision, military discipline, and a love of modern dentistry to every patient he sees. Originally from the Boston area, he earned his undergraduate degree from Providence College in 2002, followed by his DMD from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in 2007. He went on to complete an Advanced Education in General Dentistry at Fort Jackson, SC — a foundation that’s shaped his commitment to getting things done right the first time.

Dr. Murray served as a Brigade Dentist and Triage Officer with the 3rd HBCT/3rd Brigade out of Fort Benning, GA until 2011. After completing his Army service, he practiced in San Antonio and El Paso while supporting his wife, Dr. Betsy Murray, through her medical training and own active-duty service in the U.S. Army.

In 2019, Dr. Murray and his family moved to Lincoln — his wife’s hometown — and officially made it their forever home. He joined the faculty at UNMC College of Dentistry as a Clinical Instructor, where he focuses on CAD/CAM and digital dentistry. He’s passionate about using the latest tools and techniques to make care more accurate, efficient, and comfortable for patients — because better technology means better results.

Dr. Benjamin Petry

Born in Minneapolis and raised in Albuquerque, Dr. Ben Petry followed his heart — and a whole lot of hard work — into dentistry. After earning his undergraduate degree from Hastings College in 2018, he completed his Doctorate of Dental Surgery at the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Dentistry in 2022.

Dr. Petry is passionate about delivering advanced, comprehensive care and has undergone extensive implant training to bring more full-service solutions under one roof. He’s proud to be carrying on VFD’s long-standing tradition of the “super GP” — blending clinical excellence, technology, and patient relationships into a single, seamless experience. For Dr. Petry, the future of the practice isn’t someday — it’s happening right now.

He loves getting to know his patients beyond the dental chair and believes that every person brings their own story, goals, and priorities. That’s why he’s here to listen first, then collaborate on care that fits. He’s excited to be part of a team that leads with heart and stays on the leading edge of dentistry.
